now that we have a starting # ,what are the wheel bases of potential donors. boxster,fiero,mr2,mrs. i should know them all by now but they escape me at the momment

the fiero is 93 1/2"
boxster is 95.1"
mr2 spyder 96.5"
k1 attack 96"
funny wheels once said he has a way to stretch a fiero 2.5" without cutting and welding

I think they are to expensive donors. funnywheels has a way to move the backwheels back a lil with out stretching

the wheel base isnt the issue on the fiero.the stretch is the easy part.the fiero isnt a soft top and requires alot of bracing to be safe after you chop the top.ask dave if he would do another toppless fiero and see what he says.the other two are spyders to start and would be easier builds.also you would be able to raise the top and roll up the windows if you kept the original windshields instead of using the attack windshield.

 Fiero is the best IMO. Just move the engine cradle with 2.5" OR keep the engine and engine cradle on the original place and add a new rear suspension arms with modified geometry (but uses the original joints to the cradle).

The best way from my understanding to stretch the fiero is to add to the cradle and not cut the frame.  That does require cutting the cradle but that's not as structually important as the frame.  Dave has a lot more info about this.

I would be interested in a body also.   I am in Tulsa OK,  are there any other people besides Greenmeansgo that are close.  I have fairly new Chop gun and the set up to do the bodies.  If I could get someone close to come help we could have a body party.  Green is only 4 hours away  and I know Turmight is about the same in Arkansas.  The next step would be distribution to get everyone their bodies.  I sold my 40 Ft enclosed.  Let me know its just an offer or maybe there are more people somewhere else like California that could group up.  I know the donor car looks pretty sweet but how does it compare to the tube chassis?   I saw a really killer tube chassis for the DDR car here in Oklahoma.  It was all round tube just like a race car and was very simple to build and extremely stout.    However the MR2 spyder is looking good.   Let me know

Hey Kelly how are you? Hey, don't count on me for a body purchase even this is one of my favorite designs. My wife is 14 weeks into a battle with breast cancer and is just out of surgery. Long road ahead too, so about the only thing I could do would be give moral support. I'd nearly give my left lugnut Grin (you would have had to seen the cartoon) for one of these! Grin

Update:

I am sorry that it has been so long since the last one... but everything is looking great.

I believe that I found a place to build the bodies, and although the price is still to be determined, I have seen their work up close and would verify that they know what they're doing.  I will be in negotiations once I finish getting the rest of the molds and organizing them so that I know what part goes where.

I may be adding my own touch of carbon to a few areas of the package as well, so whoever buys will have the show carbon already fabricated into the paneling!

The MR2 convertible looks to be the donor of choice, being that the wheel base is such a close match.  Although I really didn't intend to take on this project, I have had way too many PM's and emails to ignore, so from all of you that have continuously pressed in and suggested that I make the body a "panel replacement" for a donor, you may be getting your way. 

I will pay to have the first package made... on me, no worries, but once the body is made, it will be up to all of you to make a final decision wether to have the package sold as is, or if you'd rather me slightly alter it to bolt directly onto the donor and get new tooling of the adjusted panels.


Question... what year MR2 is it that we will be seeking?

That package looks good!  $20,000 looks like a good price for the complete package, and to the right buyer, it will be one sweet vehicle. 

Re-cap:
The bodies that will be made out of the molds over here will probably be around $5,000 plus shipping (less if I can work some more negotiating), and will include carbon fiber accents.  Based upon interest, this may turn into an easy bolt-on body replacement for the MR2 Convertible!

I will keep you guys updated with everything as it unfolds.

Mike: Sorry to hear your wife has cancer. I trust they got it in time to save her life.

I will shoot a few upstairs to the big guy for both of you. My mother beat it, my wife is beating several different versions along with two kidney aneurysms. Be strong for her (I know you will, you seem to have your priorities in order).
