HI all,

WOW!!  I have a million questions regarding the paddle shifters!!!

1.  Will this be column mounted?  AKA, OEM style?
2.  Do you really need the OEM wheel to complete this setup?
3.  Can this be adapted to any fiero style column?
4.  OH YEAH!  What transmission are you using?
5.  Is this a custom setup, inconjunction with an after-market setup?
6.  If your going to do a transverse mounted engine, did you know that Ford and GM have a transversely mounted 6 spd auto, that is out already?
7.  I ask #6 cuz in the ferrari 355, we have to go transversely mounted, and when I can start a build that is the trans i'll be lookin at first!  So I guess is,  could this setup be adapted to any fiero?

OK, maybe not a million, but i've no doubt that there will be more.....  Jus too hungry to ask more questions without more info, hehe....  Wink Grin Kiss

edit:  Forgot to add this, can I spread the word to non-kitcar folk?  Or no go on that?
reedit:   By spreading the word, I meant to the people over at pennocks?

That paddle shift looks great!  I have looked into this in the aftermarket and for an auto trans it is quite some $$$, like 1K.  So, what I came up with was a linear actuator, and then timing would be a factor with the DC motors they use.  So, you would want at least some 7 segment display and a circuit to index the motor.  Could be done, but I would want to do this without a bunch of limit switches as this complicates the mess.  Decided that I would shelve that project as I can forsee that the torque the motor would produce be variable depending on load.  It is like shaving the handles on a car.  You need this to work without any issues EVERY TIME. Sounds good, but shifting is something you need to depend on.  Let the forum know what idea you have for this as it sounds like a good idea but not reliable.  Eric

pavo_rodddy,
Where do I start? First, yes this will be column mounted, just like the OEM (MURCenary and I wouldn't have anything less), The paddles themselves are direct trace-ups from the actual car.
You don't need the actual steering wheel to complete the setup, but we are trying to be as authentic as possible. There are other steering wheels out there that look good, and close to the actual.
Yes it can be adapted to any Fiero steering column, in fact, there are no modifications necessary, since it was designed to attach to the Fiero column.
I am using the stock Fiero transaxle. This system was designed to work on that trans, but can be modified to fit just about any automatic trans, no matter what year. Here in CA., it is just to difficult to get your car registered if you change the engine and trans set-up.
This is a totally custom set-up, no aftermarket pieces necessary. This system totally eliminates the console shifter, the paddles control every position of the trans, from PARK all the way down to 1.

FerrariXXXman,
This system is just as reliable as having a console mounted shifter. The only difference is, you have paddles instead of a shifter post. I am 100% confident in my design, everything has been over-engineered, over-built (material), and include safety features that make it impossible to accidently shift into Reverse or Park, whether you are stopped, or moving. There is a green dot matrix display that lets you know what gear you have selected, so theres never any guessing what gear you're in.

sc80,
Theres no need to give me a deposit! When I get all my moulds and circuit boards done, I'll let you know. I will be posting a full set of pictures of this unit, for all to see. I would also like to put a video of it on You-tube, so people can see it working.

I am waiting to see how much a machine shop will charge me to mill the parts. There aren't many, so it shouldn't cost much. I cant post a price until I get one from them. sorry Cry

It should be done before Xmas! His build is actually going alot faster than mine, mostly because I've kept all the moulds from the pieces I've had to make for my car, so when his car gets to the next step, I dont have to stop and make a piece all over again. Whatever I make for my car, I make an extra one for his. I've got alot of parts just waiting to go into his car. His should be done shortly after mine.

He is going with the pearl yellow exterior, with black leather (all leather) and yellow stiching on the interior.
