This seems to be a bike friendly forum, so I guess I will make a build thread for my new bike if anyone is interested. I had been looking around for awhile for a new bike, I had sold my GSXR-750 last year and been missing it. I was looking at a new bike but everything I wanted cost about $10,000. Then I stumbled across this bike its a 2006 Honda CBR 600RR (MSRP $9,499.00 new) it only has 1000 miles. It was wrecked in early 2007 and has been sitting since. The previous owner stopped making his payments and it got REPO'ed. I bought it from the REPO company for $700.00 clean title and it runs. Now the bads, the bike was rear ended and damaged the rear wheel, rear tail frame area, fairings, headlights, cluster, windscreen, etc. The goods, perfect running gear, frame, swing arm, forks, handle bars, wiring, tank, etc. I purchased a full fairing kit off of ebay, a tail frame section, windscreen, mirrors and tomorrow I will buy a wheel. So if anyone wants to see me build up this bike let me know and I will post updates. Take Care! -Chris Fairing kit from ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290233589749&rd=1#ht_6666wt_0When I am done it will look like the bike on the right.

Thats a steal of a deal.
When you come across another buy it and fix and i'll buy it. (good side business)
the fairing kits are inexpensive. already painted and with decal. good buy. I'll remember that for the next bike, it beats sanding and painting, taping, buying paint.
How much for the finished bike when your done with it?
i would like to see the process.
I've been looking for bikes also and the price is out their way to expensive for a nice ride.

I would love to buy, fix up bikes, and sell them but I almost never find them. Also, I have a hard time selling someone something that has been damaged. As for this bike I will fix it and ride it for the summer, then I might sell it. It to early to guess what I will want for it because I'm not sure what I will have invested when its done. I can say this when its finished it will be done right, I never cut corners and especially and a motorcycle. The good thing is that everything that is damaged is bolt on items, so they will all get replaced. When I am ready to sell the bike I will let you know, also I will keep my eyes open for another bike for you. Do you live in California?

I live in Tucson AZ
All the good repos are in cali (or at least a good highend selection for cars, bikes)
I know some people do feel weird buying a damage bike or car. as long as it looks great and the frame is straight and the wheels are aligned to spec. I'm ok buying salvaged titles. have been for years. now selling them thats a differnet beast. it takes time. and hopefully you didn't pay to much for it to start. or you do all the work yourself and come out ahead.
Looks like you will be doing great.

Chris:
I like to do the same thing. If you can find them like you did, you can't help but make money.
When I owned my bike shop in Columbus, Ohio (Mud Sweat and Gears for those who are in Columbus) I had a salvage business agreement with several insurance companies to purchase their wrecks and recovered bikes. I had a blast and made some mad cash. That was how I paid my way through college.
I miss that business.
Best of luck,
Dave

Dave, that sounded like a lot of fun. Well todays update: I transfered the bike into my name and paid the back fee's, all $445 worth!!! Oh well, but at least I know for sure now it has a clean title. Then I bought a headlight, and front bracket, front wiring harness for the headlights, and a marker light. I also got the key cut and tried to start it, it cranked over perfect but would not start. The guy I bought it from had it running but he had some tricks to get running. It turns out the 06 CBR will not start without and gauge cluster attached, so I went on ebay and bought a gauge cluster. Once again, now I wait...... I will be towing it home on Sunday and start tearing it down. I should have some cool photos then. My new lights.

Thank you. Friends come in handy. In exchange for picking up my bike, I did an bunch of welding on his truck and bought him lunch. It was a good day all in all.

Thank you! I will keep the posts coming. I do love ebay, if it was not for it I would have to pay way more and search much harder for the parts. I remember the days before I had the internet and I could not imagine even starting a project like this back then.

More parts arrived! Today I had a few boxes from the brown truck! I am a little under the weather otherwise I would have got work done on the bike today. But here are the parts. The complete rear tail sub frame. No more tail up look. New Honda Mirrors. New compete set of fairing bolts and wind screen bolts and nuts. New front upper fairing stay bracket.

Rear wheel arrived today!! It has an almost brand new Michelin Pilot Power tire, and every thing else looks great. I will try and get time to install this tomorrow. Also, my cluster is in and I will be picking it up tomorrow as well. With any luck I will be able to take this bike out on its first ride this weekend (although there are still a few things need before it can be really road worthy). Here is a picture of the wheel, the seller did not put it in a bag so it covered in packing peanuts but oh well.
