is it the UV that destroys it? if so, isn't there a UV resistant clear coat that would help?

I'm making a air intake piece for a friend of mine tomorrow night so I will do a video and pictures of my process. But here's a simple lay out of the work. I start by painting the piece with a semi gloss black, then I lay over it a piece of rubber non slip matting which comes in a roll purchased at home depot in the cabinet section. Just make sure the matting is pulled tight onto the piece. Then I spray silver over the matting and let it dry. Pull the matting off and dust the piece with universal metallic black, this gives it a 3d effect. Then finish it with clear coat. It looks just like carbon fiber when finished. If you want a tighter weave pattern you can use the screening material also purchased at home depot to repair a screen window or door. I've used this technic on several engine covers and piece's and it looks great. When I make the piece tomorrow I will post a step by step for anyone interested. It's so simple it's sick.
