when you ban scammers, do you block there ip address so they cant have duplicate accounts?]when you ban scammers, do you block there ip address so they cant have duplicate accounts? FYI, this is pointless. Many scammers will have dynamic IP addresses, meaning the address will change, making blocking them ineffective. Waste of time to do so. Some of the newer software (like phpBB3) automatically censors words you choose. For instance, you could set it to change the f-bomb to 'flower' if you wanted to do so. It wouldn't stop everything, but it could prove beneficial. On CobaltSS.net (I'm repairing a salvaged one so I visit it from time to time) has a monthly thread where posters submit their car to be the 'car of the month'. Such a feature could be interesting here (and require little to NO programming). Often, this site is full of dreamers, and build diaries with half torn apart cars with a brick underneath the tire to keep it from rolling down the street It might be nice to feature some completed cars once in a while!

- Yes, we do ban scammers/spammers on IP, but it isn't a foolproof method as many types of internet access (DSL/etc...) provide new IP addresses each time you login - A member rating system is an interesting idea, although it can lead to "mob rule" - I'll investigate what options there are for the forum software we're using - Car of the month is a good idea - it would be super-cool if we could feature the car image on the homepage or something Let me examine the best way to do this as well - re: a membership subscription, there would have to be some sort of alternative method for non-credit card users (I'm not saying this will be implemented, but rather are suggesting that whenever we looking at implementing a feature, we try to ensure all users can participate)

admin ari i think you have it summed up well. thhis forum has the weakest feedback system ive seen, and i just feel if we had one thoughts right in your face with your post count scamming will decrease. you cant stop them all, but its very important we chop it down a lil.

Good suggestion - just check the forum software mod site, and unfortunately it doesn't look there is a plug and play read receipt add-on - will search around some more -

I know this may be a stretch... however someone just brought up a thread about the conotation of the term "Kit Cars"...
How about changing the name of this forum from "The Kit Cars Forum" to "The Custom Replica's Forum"?

Interesting Suggestion - another benefit from this change may be that not all kits are replicas - there are a lot of 100% custom designs as well.

First and foremost thanks go to Dave and Ari for all that they do on this site. I honestly feel I would have never had the guts to try my build if it wasn't for this site and all the 'Yodas' that have been there done that. I agree the search engine REALLY needs to be reworked. I agree the posting system has to be reworked. I bet half the picts I planned to put on here were never posted because it is so hard to post them here. And again once it goes haywire all the text you typed in dissapears. So if I do have the time and patience to try it again my several sentence long explanation that I did the first attempt gets shorten to "Worked on blah blah today" just to see if the post sticks this time. Then again....maybe sometimes thats a good thing. I think it's great Dave edits or removes posts that are objectionable. I had a post removed once by Dave, but to this day I have no idea what is was I said that was offensive. Perhaps if post is removed the post is sent to the member with an explantion (even if it's and auto removal) as to why it was taken off. Just a thought. I think there should be a membership fee we pay yearly to use advance features. I think a rating system would be helpful if done well. If not done well it could lead to bullying and witch-hunts. A how-to section for such articles would be very usefull. Lastly I must admit I would like to see the name Kit Cars go away. I have said it before, it is a phrase that years ago was used to descibed a rebody on a vw; so many of the builds here are going so far beyond that its almost like De Vinci posting on a site called Arts and Crafts. Hope that made sense. Thanks again Dave and Ari. michael

Well, if the name Kitcars goes away, what will replace it? I agree Kit may give indication of lesser quality, but we all know that is not true in every instance. All these cars are not replicas.....so what do we call them?
I am personally involved in two brand new projects that are not replicas, and will be doing a third. that though based on a real car, it has been changed enought that it could not be classified as a replica either.
I suppose we could use the acronym IBV's or PBV's

Well whether it is a replica or a custom creation we are re-creating the car into something else. Another word that means re-create is REVAMP: 1. to renovate, redo, or revise 2. an act or instance of restructuring, reordering, or revising something 3. n. a complete reorganization or revision. While thinking of my car as a revamp car sounds kind of cool in a way, in another way it sounds like something Dracula would drive. It would be hard to come up with something that would replace kit car, make sense, and catch-on.

Personally, I think it would be pointless to change the term Kit Cars, mainly because doing so would prevent new visitors from finding the site. I think we all initially came here by googling some variation of kit car.
