Ron - I don't believe I understand your question.
Regardless if hosting is $1 per year or $1000 per year, that is still money which is no longer in my pocket.
Nevertheless, I still don't charge anything to use this site.
Users can read and respond to messages, as well as download images for free. Unlike most kitcar sites out there, I let both commercial entitys and individuals post their cars for sale in the buy/sell section for free.
As AutoMX noted you can also post as many images as you want for free on this site, as long as they are hosted on another site like imageshack.
Basically I go by the Google rule: "Don't be evil". Don't tease users with "free before date XXX" or "Buy 1 get 5 free". If you want to use the site, go ahead, use it as much as you want, free. If want to contribute something to help keep the site running, that's great, and here's some image uploading privledges for you in appreciation.
Oh, I host with OLM.net and I have been running kitcar.ca for about 4 years now.
