Looking at the overlay of the two cars (Lambo and MR2 II) it makes me wonder which production car can be used as a donor for such a project.  I really can't think of anything out there which has such a short nose and forward windshield, like the Lambo has....Any donor car for this project will require MAJOR CUTTING, welding and prepositioning of the windshield whether it's a coupe or a convertible in order to make it look authentic...A car like the MR2 the profiles of the two cars and the position and rake of the windshield are so far off regardless of the wheelbase, which is shorter to begin with.  I looks like "major "surgery" will be required....

unless of course you build a full lamborghini gallardo chassis, which i could build with proper plans. I found diablo plans and ford gt plans. Are there any Gallardo chassis plans, because i can build them from scratch if they are accurate

There aren't that many mid/rear engined cars to begin with. And if we're talking about affordable mid/rear engined cars, then its pretty much down to the MR2 and Fiero only.

Any donor car for this project will require MAJOR CUTTING, welding and prepositioning of the windshield whether it's a coupe or a convertible in order to make it look authentic...A car like the MR2 the profiles of the two cars and the position and rake of the windshield are so far off regardless of the wheelbase, which is shorter to begin with.  I looks like "major "surgery" will be required....

Which is why Extreme chose to cut the roof and pillars, then made his own frame for the murcie kit. In a coupe, its quite easier to do all the chopping and keep the chassis robust enough to withstand an accident or roll over with a cleverly designed frame. But in a convertible, you only have the A-Pillars. So, its quite harder to push the windshield forward and still have strong enough A-Pillars to sustain a roll over.

There isn't much room in lambo cars to fit an engine, even transversely, in the front because of the short distance between the bumper and wind shield and the low profile of the nose. So, front engined cars,   like what Extreme did with their 360, aren't an option.

unless of course you build a full lamborghini gallardo chassis, which i could build with proper plans. I found diablo plans and ford gt plans. Are there any Gallardo chassis plans, because i can build them from scratch if they are accurate

But that would skyrocket the cost of building the kit. Not to mention the amount of work required to build it.

yes, but i'd much rather build a sturdy, track ready chassis, that will perform like a gallardo, not a fiero, nor an mr2.

- the image of the gallardo above is not too helpful in building a chassis.

But why? Honestly, why?

If you enjoy track racing, there are tons and tons of cars that can be tuned to perform comparably to a gallardo on the track for a fraction of the cost. Heck, you can probably buy a 911 turbo that will perform just as good as on the track and still be much more practical than a gallardo for the same cost of a gallardo replica built on a custom chassis.

If you're after the gallardo look then its best to mod an already existing car to keep your costs down.

But if you're after both the looks and performance and money isn't much of an issue, then why not buy the real deal?

if you build a full chassis and frame, and purchase the replica shell and interior, it would cost a quarter the price of the real deal. And a 997 turbo is the same price as a used gallardo. I could probably build a full rolling chassis with engine and trans for less than $20,000. Add the replica shell, interior, electronics, etc, and your looking at $60,000 max. I see good Fiero replicas going for that price.

Being able to build the chassis yourself makes a big difference in cost. But even so, I don't know if it's doable for $60k.

Still, for $60K you can get a 996 turbo or a 3 year old SL55 AMG. I wouldn't put the SL55 in the same class as the 996 turbo or gallardo, but its still a very quick and very nice car.

by dna's past form i think it will be on a single doner car with hardly any or no cutting, it will probably be with in a 4-5% difference like the 360 kit, no more talk of a complete chassis it's not dnas bag!
