What is a kit car?
A kit-car is an automobile that is available in kit form, i.e. you buy a set of parts that you have to assemble yourself. Usually many major mechanical parts such as the engine and transmission are taken from one or more donor vehicles. Kits vary in completeness from as little as a book of plans to a complete set of all the components required.

Many kit cars are replicas of famous exotic or antique cars which would be otherwise inaccessible to the builder. Some kit cars are 100% custom designs.

One final, yet very important note: many people build kit cars because they think it will be a cheap way to get an exotic car. If you ask many of the experienced builders on this forum, they will all likely tell you the same thing: kit cars can be a very expensive hobby. If all you want is the finished product, you're probably better off buying a "turn-key" - kit car building is for those who love the construction process as much as (if not more than) the final product.
